Massachusetts trains serve interstate, Amtrak, and local travelers

While in Boston, relax at a boutique hotel or spa then climb aboard regional, commuter, or local rail lines traveling through and within Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA or the “T”) offers daily train, bus, and trolley service through the Greater Boston Area. AMTRAK’s Northeast Regional Route runs downtown-to-downtown service up and down the Northeast Corridor from Boston to Newport News, VA, and its Acela Express offers fast service from Boston to Washington. The Downeaster offers four round trips every day from Boston North Station to Portland, ME, while the Vermonter route runs daily from Washington, D.C., to St. Albans, VT. MBTA Commuter rail service is also available from Boston to Haverhill, Ipswich, Rockport and Lowell.

The MBTA runs daily train, bus and trolley service through the Greater Boston Area. That system is called the MBTA or, informally,  "The T." The system no longer accepts tokens and requires Charlie Cards or Charlie Tickets. Extended passes are also available. Call 617-222-3200 for more information.
