Lots of sites, lots of fun for all levels of whitewater rafters

It’s easy to see why Zoar Outdoor was named Best Rafting Adventure by Yankee Magazine: It’s all here, from easygoing floats down the Deerfield River in Massachusetts to intermediate-level trips on the West River in Vermont (great especially for fall foliage) to thrilling, plunging Class IV rapids on the Monroe Bridge Dryway or the Concord River. Equipment at Zoar is state-of-the-art, guides are highly trained and professional – even the homemade meals are delicious. And safety is a top concern, with children ages 5 and up more than welcome. Want to improve your skills or looking to just dip your toe in the rafting world? Zoar has instructional clinics for every experience level. Make a real getaway of it by renting a room at the Hawk Mountain Lodge or one of 11 cabin tents.

Rafters will find white water Eden in Berkshires

When the Bear Swamp Generating Station in the foothills of the Berkshires releases its 1.7 billion gallons of water, it turns the clean, clear Deerfield River into a white water paradise. And your gateway to that paradise is the Berkshire East Mountain Resort in Charlemont. Rigorously trained rafting guides will take you, whether you are a newbie or an old pro, on a rafting tour you will never forget. Tours range from the mild – a family-friendly float down easy white water – to the wild: Class III and IV rapids known as Dragon’s Tooth and Terminator. Trips, running from April through October, include picnic lunches or barbecues, photos, and plenty of time to enjoy breathtaking scenery.
