Massachusetts trains serve interstate, Amtrak, and local travelers

then climb aboard regional, commuter, or local rail lines traveling through and within Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA or the “T”) offers daily train, bus, and trolley service through the Greater Boston Area. AMTRAK’s Northeast Regional Route runs downtown-to-downtown service up and down the Northeast Corridor from Boston to Newport News, VA, and its Acela Express offers fast service from Boston to Washington. The Downeaster offers four round trips every day from Boston North Station to Portland, ME, while the Vermonter route runs daily from Washington, D.C., to St. Albans, VT. MBTA Commuter rail service is also available from Boston to Haverhill, Ipswich, Rockport and Lowell.
