Eric Pape: Fantasy Illustrations

Join us for our fourth annual Eric Pape fine art exhibition at the Hammond Castle Museum, featuring a significant collection of pen and ink illustrations by Eric Pape (1870 to 1938). Many of these works were recovered from Pape’s locked studio decades after his death and have not been publicly exhibited in over a century. Included are illustrations originally created for The Arabian Nights, Tales of Wonder and Magnificence, Fairy Tales and Stories by Hans Christian Andersen, Victor Hugo’s Notre Dame de Paris, Rip Van Winkle, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and Shakespeare and The Heart of a Child by Gertrude Slaughter.

Creative Kids: Knowing Nature

Inspire creativity and curiosity in this week-long immersive program at Peabody Essex Museum (PEM)! Creative Kids: Knowing Nature engages students ages 11–13 through hands-on exploration of art, nature, and storytelling.

Inspired by PEM’s exhibition Knowing Nature: Stories of the Boreal Forest and the interactive Art & Nature Center, participants will explore the natural world through art-making, writing, and multimedia projects. Students will also enjoy outdoor experiences across PEM’s gardens and campus.

Guided by PEM teaching artists and visiting creatives, students will collaborate on an original group multimedia project titled Field Studies: Regeneration. The program concludes with a family showcase and reception on April 24.

Free Museum Admission for All youth at the Cape Cod Museum of Art

The Cape Cod Museum of Art is thrilled to announce a generous donation from The Design Initiative Inc., an architecture practice deeply committed to designing spaces and supporting organizations that strengthen our community. Thanks to the gift, admission to the museum is now free for all visitors 21 years old and younger for the next year. This initiative opens the doors to students and families, providing access to our permanent collection and inspiring exhibitions year-round. The Design Initiative, led by architect and artist Mary-Ann Agresti AIA, is known for creating public and workplace environments that nurture community.

Eric Pape: Fantasy Illustrations

Experience the fourth annual Eric Pape fine art exhibition at the Hammond Castle Museum. This special exhibit showcases a remarkable collection of pen-and-ink illustrations by renowned artist Eric Pape, many of which were rediscovered in his locked studio decades after his death and have not been publicly displayed for over a century.

The exhibition features 73 restored works on loan from photographer and collector Bruce Haley, along with additional pieces from the private collection of Dr. Gregory Conn. Pape’s illustrations for literary classics such as The Arabian Nights, Rip Van Winkle, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and Notre-Dame de Paris are among the highlights.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to view “The Wireless Naval Battle of Gloucester Bay,” the only surviving mural by Eric Pape, on permanent display inside the museum.
