2024 Eclipse

[Not Quite] Total Eclipse of the Park – Boston Harbor Islands MA

Visit Spectacle Island, Boston Harbor Islands Park, for a unique viewing opportunity of the 2024 solar eclipse in Boston Harbor. Boston will not experience totality, but guests will see 93% coverage of the sun if weather permits. Your ticket includes: Ferry transportation from Long Wharf to Spectacle Island; hiking; bird and wildlife observations; Junior Ranger program with collectors badges (for all ages); picnicking and s’mores. Check-in at Long Wharf at 12:30 p.m.; ferry departs for Spectacle at 1 p.m.; maximum eclipse in Boston at 3:29 p.m.; ferry departs Spectacle for Boston at 4 p.m.; arrival in Boston at 4:30 p.m.

Solar Eclipse Viewing Party – Cambridge MA

Cambridge will be experience a near-total solar eclipse (93.1% coverage). All are welcome to a viewing party in the grassy field of Kingsley Park, a section of Fresh Pond Reservation. Bring your own blanket or chair. Enjoy live music by local folk band Trail Mix; free commemorative eclipse glasses; eclipse and astronomy experiments and displays; educational resources. Timeline of the Solar Eclipse: at 2:16 p.m. the moon begins to touch the sun; at 3:29 p.m. is the peak of the eclipse; at 4:39 p.m.the moon fully passes to the other side.

2024 Eclipse Celebration and Free Admission Day at Ecotarium -- Worcester MA

A total solar eclipse is arcing across the country, and Worcester is near its path! Come to Sundial Plaza with a chair, a blanket, and a snack if you wish to watch the moon cover the sun. Also, explore planets, build your own solar system, and investigate eclipses from beyond the atmosphere. Museum opens at noon and maximum eclipse is at 3:28 p.m. Tickets are required for at 4 p.m. indoor program, Astronomy Live: The Sky Over Time. All programs will take place on Sundial Plaza (weather permitting) unless otherwise noted.

Tanglewood 2024 Season

Set in an exceptionally beautiful part of the Berkshires, in a place where the best of the current generation of artists gather to celebrate everything music has to offer, the concerts, workshops and discussions at Tanglewood create memories to last a lifetime. Friends and families gather on the lawn, or inside the Serge Koussevitzky Music Shed with its world-famous acoustics, to hear the Boston Symphony Orchestra, world-famous solo artists and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus. Smaller programs play out throughout the property, where eclectic artists both perform and discuss their work, educating audiences and mentoring students. A vast array of programs, from John Williams Night to an evening celebrating Bernstein and Brahms, will be presented from late June through Aug. 31. Come experience Tanglewood and begin a new summer tradition.

In the spirited hands of new Artistic Director Jonathan Cohen, these exquisite choral treasures from Bach and Telemann are nothing short of divine. To open the program, the “unimpeachably excellent” Handel & Haydn Chorus keeps vigil in two contemplative Bach cantatas, with charismatically commanding soprano Robin Johannsen, a favorite from last season, soaring above. Then, after a rollicking romp through Brandenburg No. 6, Telemann gets the final word, comforting even as he captivates. This is a double feature you don’t want to miss.

The Age of the Rise – East Cambridge MA

A call for action on climate change. The Age of the Rise will feature music written by Eliza Brown, Catarina Domenici, Mary Montgomery Koppel, J. A. J. Sedarski, and Kyle Rivera. Their works will be performed by Ryan Shannon, violin; Thomas Barth, cello; Celine Ferro, clarinet; Thomas Schmidt, percussion; Julia Scott Carey, piano; Kelley Hollis, soprano; and Nicholas Southwick, flute. Audience members may watch this performance in person at the Multicultural Arts Center or virtually via a Youtube livestream.

Chameleon Arts Ensemble presents "Shadows, Canons, Veils" – Boston MA

Chameleon Arts Ensemble presents an electrifying chamber music program at intersection of past and present. Beethoven breaks free from his classical roots with his quintet for piano and winds, while Serge Arcuri animates fantastical scenes from Medieval manuscripts in Les Furieuses enluminures. Rebecca Clarke plays hide and seek with quixotic clouds in her Midsummer Moon for violin and piano, and Thomas Adès unveils Couperin’s Les baricades mistérieuses for the 21st century with a shimmering, kaleidoscopic trompe l’oeil. Shostakovich, too, looks to the past, bringing Baroque grandeur to his striking Piano Quintet, as shadows of history give way to the future.

Brandenburg Concertos – Cambridge MA

Revel in the splendor of J.S. Bach’s complete Brandenburg Concertos, the best of the Baroque. From the clarion call of the trumpet in No. 2 to the tour de force harpsichord solo in No. 5, there’s always something new to discover in this much-loved collection. Handel +Haydn’s endlessly dynamic concertmaster Aisslinn Nosky joins principal keyboard Ian Watson to co-pilot the ensemble from within. This is historically informed performance at its finest: masterfully performed and passionately shared. It faced, or seemed to face, the whole external world for an instant and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor.” Adapted and directed by Kelvin Grullon.
